2014 Merlot

Serious, complex, structured. Perfumed red fruits and olives in a framework of fine, dusty tannins and quality French oak.

94 Points – James Halliday Wine Companion

Tasting Notes

An intense and complex nose of sweet fruit, cassis, savoury notes of olives and spice, supported by mocha notes from high quality French oak. The palate is round, complex, and savoury, with cashmere-like tannins rounding off the finish. Not your run-of-the-mill soft and simple Merlot but one grown and made with complexity and layers of flavour in mind.

Roast pork loin.

A warm and very dry growing season, culminating in a low yielding harvest with perfectly healthy fruit. Berries were small with intense, concentrated flavours and exceptional acidity.

Hand-picked from two blocks, one north-facing, one east-facing, both dry-grown on deep red, loamy basaltic ferrosols. Fruit was chilled overnight, then hand sorted on our sorting table before vinification in small open fermenters with between 2-4 weeks on skins. 17 months in 37% new French oak.
